Prevent Stains
Spills and scuffs are going to happen. But, particularly during the first months of your new floor’s life, it’s important to take immediate action when a spill happens. Even though most types of spills won’t penetrate very deeply into your polished concrete, the longer it sits, the more it can discolor or mar the surface. Containing and cleaning a spill right after it happens is key.
To clean a spill, first sop up as much as possible with a paper towel, cloth, or other soft absorbent material. Mop the area with warm water or use an auto-scrubber. There are multiple pH-neutral cleaning products that can be applied during mopping or scrubbing that will lift stains.
Routine maintenance and regular cleaning will lighten any stains, but more aggressive spot removal may be necessary. This is also true for scuff or tire marks. The substance spilled will dictate the level of attention that is going to be required to remove the stain. For instance, etching can occur if acidic substances like juice, soda, vinegar, wine, animal waste, etc., if not cleaned immediately.
