Wax Off
As one of the lowest maintenance and most cost-effective options available, polished concrete is durable without a lot of hassle. One question many people have about polished concrete floors concerns waxing. Unlike other flooring options like vinyl or linoleum, mechanically polished concrete does not require ongoing wax treatments to retain its shine.
Because the grinding, densifying and honing processes seal the concrete’s pores resulting in a buffed and glossy finish, wax is not recommended or necessary. With regular dry and damp mopping, your floor will stay beautiful for years. In addition, polished concrete floors are more slip resistant than waxed linoleum when they are clean and dry.
Over time, particularly in high-traffic areas, your floor will need to be occasionally scrubbed with a floor burnisher or auto-scrubber. Be sure to use the right type of floor pad to prevent surface damage and maintain the floor’s polish. These diamond-impregnated pads come in different grits for your cleaning and buffing needs. Depending on the specifications of the pads, they can be used wet or dry.
